Kia ora. Welcome to Hauora Tairāwhiti – previously Tairāwhiti District Health

A new direction for Health in Tairāwhiti

Hauora Tairāwhiti funds and provides health care services across the Tairāwhiti region. We are a health board previously known as Tairāwhiti District Health. To make it clear that we are all about the health and wellbeing of the people of Tairāwhiti, changes to the organisation were made on 1 September 2015.

Gisborne Hospital is one of the health services provided by Hauora Tairāwhiti.

Why change?

In Tairāwhiti Māori on average die five years younger. This difference is unacceptable and we need to act now to change this. To improve our people’s health we are looking at how people access health services and how this can be improved. Nobody wants to come to hospital if they don’t have to. While there will always be a hospital in Gisborne, our focus is on moving towards care closer to home.
