Locality: Whole of Tarawhiti DHB region. Service description: The team is mobile and specialises intriaging referrals, performing formal psychiatric assessment and providing support and care to service users. Each team member is a Duly Authorised Officer under the Mental Health Act 1992. Availability: The PAT team provides a 24 hour seven day a week service for mental health emergencies. Te Whare Awhiora (Ward 11) is an eight bed unit providing care for acutely unwell tangata whaiora/consumers who require care, treatment, ongoing assessment and stabilisation. Treatment is provided by nurses, consultant psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, activities therapist, occupational therapist and doctors. Referrals: Referrals are made through the PAT team or the Community Mental Health Team. Come in through the main entrance, and it is the last building on your right before the bend. The team provides specialist mental health care to tangata whaiora/consumers suffering from a mental illness. The focus is community based and all services are offered in conjunction with other providers. Treatment is provided by consultant psychiatrists, therapy team, clinical psychologists, keyworkers, social workers and support staff. This service provides assessment treatment and care for adults who have addiction problems. A opiod programme is provided also. Referrals: Referrals can be made through GP's or other hospital services, and self referrals are accepted and encouraged. Staff are able to refer to rehabilitation services outside of the TDH region. Special Mental Health Teams from Capital and Coast Health Adult MH continue to visit regularly and provide assessment and education in the areas of maternal mental health, personality disorders, intellectual disability, early intervention and Forensic Services.
Capital and Coast DHB provides two long-term rehabilitation beds. Health Waikato Henry Bennett Centre provides one Intensive Patient Care bed.
