This report aims to build on the initiatives in place that are viewed by stakeholders and the reviewers to be responding to the needs of Mâori and to complement existing approaches with both more and new services, and also new ways of doing things.
This report presents the findings of stakeholder interviews and focus groups and the results are interpreted in light of what is understood to be optimal services for older people.
Tairawhiti Cancer Services Mapping Project 
The Tairawhiti cancer service mapping project has arisen directly from the objectives and actions of the Cancer Control Plan for Tairawhiti 2007 (TDH, 2007). These actions stipulated that a service improvement project should be undertaken to:
· assess current patient management models, patient care processes and health systems
· identify gaps, delays and areas for improvement; and
· focus on inequalities and Maori experience of the cancer pathway.
