TDH Governance
District Health Boards have eleven members, seven of which are elected during trienniallocal body elections and up to four members appointed by the Minister. The Minister also appoints the Board Chair and Deputy Chair from the members. Boards are required to have two Maori representatives and in general reflect the diversity of people and interests within the Tairawhiti region.
The Board is responsible for funding most publicly funded health and disability support services in Te Tairawhiti District and for Te Tairawhiti people who need these services out of Te Tairawhiti. While the funding is provided by Central Government, it is up to the Board to decide within the guidelines provided what health and disability support services are needed and how to fund these services to best meet the health and disability needs of our population. For further information regarding the distribution of Tairawhiti's health funding, refer to the District Strategic Plan.
The Board also has responsibility for planning decisions across the range of health and non-health sectors in Tairawhiti and to influence the broader determinants of health.
